15/08/2008 A little gem. This challenging hillside short course oozes character. Well kept greens, tree lined fairways, and on the back 9 fine views across the Dove Valley towards the Peak District.
A couple of the par 4's on the outward 9 can be reached from the tee by big hitters, but the holes are certainly not straight forward.
The 12th hole must be one of the best par 3's in the Midlands. A downhill 180 yarder across a beautifull pond stocked with ornamental carp towards a slopping green with a backdrop of rhododendrons.

27/05/2008 The course is picturesque and has all the features - plenty of water/sand hazards, perfectly kept fairways and greens, and rolling hills with mature trees. But ultimately it gets the basics wrong. The holes are too short and easy. I drove a few par 4s in the rain. Then there's the tee offs - the weather was too foul to play so I only played a dozen holes, but on no less than four of those holes the tee offs were aiming at, or ludicrously close to, the previous green. There was no mention of looking out for golfers, only excessive warnings about the risk of hitting jockeys/horses on the adjacent racecourse. There were no safety nets anywhere. I will not return to this beautiful course, and hate to think of how hazardous it must be on busy days.
